Same use of memorial=war_memorial [A building, monument, statue or other edifice to celebrate a war or a victory or to commemorate those who died or were injured in a war.]. The difference is that this tag is to be used when the memorial can be better described with another memorial tag. This is to avoid using separators, adding deprecate tags such as memorial:type=* ecc.ecc..[1] [2]

How to map

Add a node node or an area area and add war_memorial=yes in addition to the primary memorial=* value. historic=memorial is required as well.
