Selective Serialization is the capability of Parsoid where it compares the original and edited DOMs, determines what has changed, and uses the original source wikitext for the unmodified regions of the DOM.
The current implementation can be found in the mediawiki/services/parsoid project[1] on the Wikimedia Git repository browser.
