What are some basic principles and strategies when designing a PCB/PCBA with multiple RF transceivers/modules for coexistance and RED compliance (or similar)? I’m primarily referring to consumer technologies such as WiFi, Bluetooth, 868, 433, LTE, GSM etc.

I have limited knowledge within the field, but I can start of with some basic points such as:

  • Following chip/module designer’s hardware guidelines.

  • If possible, designing the system to not use same or neighbouring frequency bands (WiFi / Bluetooth) at the same time.

  • Utilising band pass filters such as SAW filters on the RF outputs if external antenna is employed.

  • Matching the RF networks to the antenna impedance, leaving mount options for this purpose.

  • Coordinate transmission and reception windows between all the devices. Phones do this. Plan your Bluetooth packets to be at different times to your Wifi, GSM etc. Requires the ability to edit the baseband / communications firmware on all the devices. – tomnexus Sep 01 '23 at 16:08
